National Sierra Club Policy Statements

National Sierra Club Conservation Policy Statements

Sierra Club is one of the largest and most effective environmental organizations in the world. We will tackle just about any environmental issue and try to apply the best available science to find reasonable solutions that works for all interested parties.
All of the Sierra Club activities are centered on our mission statement and general statement of policies http://www.sierraclub.org/policy/.
For a more complete statement of policies, use this link to read an explanation of our environmental mission and the importance to our society and culture as well as our Sierra Club vision for our role in the future, use this link Sierra Club Purposes and Goals (50kb PDF, 10 pages)

Mission Statement:

To explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth;
To practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources;
To educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment; and to use all lawful means to carry out these objectives.

Unfortunately, policy statements in different environmental organizations may also be called a position statement or a white sheet or fact sheet or some other name.
Sierra Club has a very well developed list of policy statements, or more accurately Sierra Club Conservation Policies, on just about every imaginable environmental issue.
They can be accessed her at this link - http://search.atomz.com/search/?sp-a=sp1001da90&sp-x-1=collection&sp-q-1=National&sp-p=all&sp-t=site_wide&sp-q=policy+statements&x=37&y=9 .
There are currently over 600 policy statements on every environmental issue from Acid Rain to Zero Waste.  Often however, those Conservation Policies and Statements may not be under the specific term you are using to search for information. For example, the Sierra Club policy statement on Marine Reserves is given under Marine Wilderness Areas. It may be necessary to widen your list of search terms to find the appropriate policy statement.
However, you will also find there are many webpages of information on the general topic you are searching beyond position and policy statements. Even Action Alerts composed by Sierra Club Chapters other than you own are available. Many issues you are fighting may have been done before by another team of Sierra Clubbers. Start searching the national Sierra Club website for any environmental issue and Conservation Policy on which you need information.
